Unlike most compact SUVs, the Volkswagen Tiguan is part of a large automotive group. Of course, this has some advantages and some disadvantages. On the upside, the German SUV gets all the tech and build quality of higher-end models such as the Audi Q5 or the Porsche Macan. On the other side, Volkswagen has to keep the Tiguan at a certain low level so it doesn't get better than the models mentioned above.

  • The 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan comes standard with a digital cluster
  • Its 2.0 four cylinders produce 184 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque
  • The Tiguan is Volkswagen's best-selling vehicle Worldwide

The fact is the Volkswagen Tiguan could be a lot better than it is right now, to the point it could outperform most of its luxury cousins in pretty much all departments except for the prestige maybe. Still, this doesn't mean the Tiguan is less attractive than the competition because that is the opposite. The German SUV drives like a luxury vehicle, act like a luxury vehicle on so many levels and is as good-looking as most luxury vehicles. The best part about it is the build quality. The Tiguan feels as robust as a tank, and it is, according to many crashes test.

What's new for 2023?

The current generation of Volkswagen Tiguan has been on the market since 2016. This means the German manufacturer gave its SUV pretty much anything that was missing over time. Also, then Tiguan benefited from a general refresh last year. So, no significant change for 2023 except for adding new wheels for the R-Line Black Edition version.

The Right Amount of Options

There are four trim levels to choose from for the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan. Everything starts with the Trendline, which has a price of $36,332. For this amount, you get a piece of decent standard equipment and a vehicle that looks nothing like a base model, which is nice. If you want more, the Comfortline comes next with a starting price of $40,232. Nest is the Comfortline R-Line Black Edition at $42,932. Finally, the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line sits at the top of the line with a starting price of $46,432, which is reasonable considering the equipment you get. This version is awe-inspiring and makes you feel any luxury vehicle is a waste of money.

The 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan all share the same engine: a turbocharged 2.0 L four-cylinders making 184 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque. These numbers may seem low for a compact SUV, but I promise that the Tiguan can keep up with most of its rivals. I wouldn't mind if Volkswagen gave us a more powerful option, but it isn't the case for the moment, which leaves us with this only option. Also, this makes total sense knowing the Tiguan would be too good for its class and too close to its cousin if it had a more dynamic powertrain. As for the rest, the German SUV gets an eight-speed automatic gearbox and an all-wheel-drive system as standard.
